On Thursday, 23 November, Hammurabi Human Rights Organization completed the first half of the workshop for the preservation of Christian books and manuscripts within a period of 10 days of training work with explanations and practical applications on maintenance, protection and storage.

The workshop is organized by Hammurabi Organization on the request of Pope John Paul II Foundation FGPII within the project of comprehensive of the right and with the support of the Italian Development Agency.

 

Hammurabi carried out twenty hours of the workshop till Thursday, November 23, 2023,, four hours a day from 9.00 am till 1.00 pm. The agenda included the required mechanisms in the protective preservation of the manuscripts, including restoration of the manuscript, preparing a map, cleaning it, then maintenance steps and photographing the manuscript before and during the maintenance step then preservation and storage and completing the work.

 

In a statement to the representative of the Nergal News Network, the project manager, Mr. William Warda, stressed that a workshop of this kind must be one of the basic starting points for protecting the Christian heritage from damage or loss, as well as protecting the heritage privacy of the Iraqi Christian component with the wider goal of preserving and protecting the Iraqi national heritage by virtue of the historical value of this Iraqi achievement.

 

 

 

It is to be mentioned that workshop was launched in Baghdad on November 19, 2023, with logistical support of the Assyrian Church of the East and two lectures, experts from the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage – Iraqi Manuscript House-.It is expected that the workshop will end on November 30, 2023.
