The second workshop on beekeeping and small-scale apiary management concluded in Mankish on December 20, 2025.
The workshop was organized by the Hammurabi Human Rights Organization Duhok office with support of Christian Solidarity International, as part of ongoing efforts of the organization to empower local communities and promote sustainable livelihoods.
Twelve trainees participated in the workshop, including three females in a move reflecting the keen of the organization to supporting participation of women participation in productive and professional projects.
The training program extended over twelve theoretical and practical sessions covering various topics, including the fundamentals of beekeeping, hive care and maintenance, diagnosis and treatment of bee diseases, hive propagation techniques, honey harvesting and queen rearing methods, as well as the technical and administrative aspects of managing small apiaries using modern scientific methods.
The program included two practical field lectures witnessing the opening of a beehive in suitable conditions, where participants learned firsthand about the types of bees, the mechanism for distinguishing the queen inside the hive, and practical methods of propagation, in addition to technical applications that enhanced their skills and linked the theoretical aspect to real practice.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the staff of the Hammurabi Organization in Duhok, represented by Engineer Ayad Yaqoub, the program director, and Mr. Azzam Ayad, the accounts manager, accompanied by Father Nadhir Al-Harbouli, pastor of Mar Georgis Church, distributed incentive gifts to the participants. These gifts included a complete beekeeping kit and a beehive for each trainee, enabling them to launch their productive projects and achieve a sustainable source of income for their families.
The trainer concluded the program by providing technical guidance on methods of caring for beehives during the winter and the necessary preventative measures to ensure the continuity and quality of production stressing the importance of adhering to the technical guidelines for the long-term success of the project.
The workshop concluded with a group dinner where participants expressed their thanks to the Hammurabi Organization and its supporting bodies, appreciating the role of the training workshops in improving the the living standards and promoting self-reliance in local communities.
