Hammurabi Human Rights Organization welcomed the decision of Mr. Muqtada al-Sadr regarding the integration of Saraya al-Salam formations into the state’s military institutions and placing them under the authority of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, describing the move as an important national step that would support the state’s security capabilities, strengthen its prestige and sovereignty, and consolidate the principle of restricting weapons to the state.
The organization emphasized that this move shows a high sense of national responsibility and concern for the sake of domestic stability, in light of the ongoing security and political challenges facing Iraq, noting that strengthening state authority and its constitutional institutions constitutes the fundamental pillar of a state able to protect its citizens, security, and their rights.
Mr. William Warda, Director of Public Relations at Hammurabi Organization, said: "We commend the initiative of Mr. Muqtada al-Sadr to integrate Saraya al-Salam formations into the state and its security forces, as an important step within the right framework for building a strong, prestigious, and sovereign state."
He added: "This decision by Mr. Muqtada al-Sadr reveals the immense selflessness he demonstrates for the sake of the nation, peace, and the preservation of the country’s sovereignty and security." He also called on all armed factions to follow the same national initiative and to hand over their weapons to the state, as it is the only authority that holds the constitutional and legal right to manage the security file and protect civil peace.
Hammurabi Human Rights Organization stressed that "Supporting the state’s security and military institutions and reinforcing its sovereignty constitute an essential gateway to achieving stability and development, as well as consolidating a state of citizenship and the rule of law, thereby guaranteeing a secure future for all Iraqis."
