·        Final day of the training workshop with Minority Rights Group International

The activities of the training workshop held by Hammurabi Human Rights Organization in cooperation with Minority Rights Group International were concluded on 14 May, a 3 days workshop aimed to train a number of participants, 25 in this case, on monitoring, documenting and writing reports about human rights violations.

The 3rd and final day began with Mr. Khidher Domle, Member of Peace building Center in University of Duhok and Expert and Trainer in Media and Minority, talking about how to prepare a monitoring report, stressing the need to focus not only on political and military accidents but also on violations committed in social life, such as discrimination in a hospital or in a school where a teacher might use certain words which could offend a certain religion or ethnicity.

Adding A new generation of monitors will rise and fortunately, Hammurabi offered this opportunity for you to get this experience, also stressing that social press is the open gate for monitoring violations.

Following that, Mr. William Warda, HHROs Public Relations Officer and the director of the training program, gave a tutorial on how to use Iraq ceasefire org, which is a website where you can check human rights violations reports not only in Iraq but internationally, or submit one of your own reports. Stating that this website is a victory for human rights.

Then Mr. Domle continued the training, giving typical information for documentation and talking about the main information which should be provided.

The participants presented a number of cases of violations and then they were told to implement what they learned in writing a report about the chosen cases.

The last part of the training was a tutorial by Mr. Domle on how to conduct interviews which could help in monitoring a violation, focusing on the fact that when writing monitoring reports we want to know how the accident took place, not why, we do not want the reason, we want the description.

The workshop was concluded by a speech from Mr. Warda followed by another from Mr. Louis Merqus Ayoub thanking everyone for their participation and interest and confirming that monitoring prevents escalation of aggression and thus protects the citizens, wishing that this workshop could help decrease the amount of human rights violations committed in Iraq.

This workshop was directed by Mr. William Warda HHROs Public Relations Officer and coordinated by Mr. Adel Saad, with the attendance and help of Mr. Louis Merqus Ayoub vice president of HHRO and Mr. Yohanna Towaya HHROs legal advisor.
