Hammurabi Human Rights Organization HHRO participated in the meetings of United Nations delegation to assess the needs and conditions for the establishment of an investigation team, voted by the UN Security Council on September 18, 2017 and the demand of the UN Secretary-General to take the necessary steps to support local Iraqi efforts to hold the accountability of ISIS for war crimes against humanity and genocide committed in Iraq.

The lawyer, Mr. Yohanna Yousef Tawaya, head of HHRO branch in Erbil, attended the meetings and interviews of the UN delegation since arrival in Iraq on 7th  April 2018 and continue till 12th  April 2018.

On February 8, 2018 , the Iraqi government formally accepted the terms of reference for the establishment of the team and the follow-up of its activities. Some of these terms of reference are impartial, independent and credible, and to collect and store evidence from Iraq for actions that may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide to support Iraqi efforts to hold the terrorist ISIS. And that the access of the investigation to citizens, places and freedom of movement throughout Iraq without any hindrance to the use of information collected in fair and independent criminal proceedings conducted by competent local courts, and that the exchange of evidence consistent with the policies of the United Nations in the context of the best information consistent with the law and human rights standards.

It is to be mentioned that many of the Iraqi and international human rights organizations noted with greater appreciation the periodical and annual reports issued by Hammurabi Human Rights Organization, including reports focused on monitoring and documenting the serious violations committed by ISIS in Iraq particularly in Ninewah province since the exposure of cities, towns and villages to the invasion of ISIS  mid 2014, as well as the crimes committed by terrorists against a number of Iraqi components, Yazidis, Christians, Shabak and Kakai ,by killing, kidnapping , captivity and rape of property and forced to change Religious affiliations and destruction of monasteries, churches, temples, mosques and imposing patterns of primitive and brutal life.
