The activities of the first edition of the Nohdra Sports League concluded in Dohuk Governorate, under the sponsorship and support of the Hammurabi Human Rights Organization, with the participation of youth teams from the Christian villages in the region, namely: Al-Rafidain, Beroor, Nahla, and Khoyada, with an atmosphere characterized by enthusiasm, commitment, and high sportsmanship.
The league competitions began on December 12, 2025, when four matches were held in the center of Dohuk Governorate, in addition to two matches in the Nahla area, amid a remarkable public turnout and enthusiastic participation from the people and the youth.
From the outset, the matches reflected a high level of organization and discipline among the participating teams, as well as the sportsmanship displayed by the players, lending the tournament a sophisticated competitive character that embodies the awareness of the youth and their commitment to the success of this community initiative.
The tournament was organized to support the youth in the Assyrian Christian villages of Dohuk Governorate, enhancing their role in building a cohesive society based on love and cooperation. The sport activity provided a safe space for the youth of these villages to come together, contributing to the consolidation of brotherhood and fraternity, and strengthening the bonds of social relations among them, within a framework of mutual respect and fair competition.
The tournament concluded on February 20, 2026, in the Nahla area of Aqrah District, amidst a special festive atmosphere and a large audience from the participating villages. At the end of the event, the winning team was awarded the championship cup was honored by the organization's staff in Dohuk, represented by Mr. Azzam Ayad, Director of the Hammurabi Organization office in Dohuk, in appreciation of the team's efforts, sportsmanship, and commitment throughout the league period.
The tournament organizers expressed their thanks and gratitude to the Hammurabi Human Rights Organization for its ongoing support of community initiatives in Assyrian Chaldean Christian villages, stressing the importance of continuing such activities, which foster a sense of belonging, open positive horizons for young people, and contribute to strengthening stability and social cohesion in the region.
According to the organizers, launching the second edition of the league requires increased financial support to broaden participation and allow more teams to join the competition.
They also stressed the importance of allocating individual incentive awards to the best player, best scorer, and best goalkeeper, which contributes to raising the level of competition and encouraging outstanding performance among participants, and enhances the tournament's standing as a comprehensive youth sports platform in Dohuk Governorate.
The support of Hammurabi Organization for this vital activity aligns with its strategy to support youth initiatives that promote coexistence, peacebuilding, and achieve social cohesion.
