Mr. William Warda, Director of Public Relations of Hammurabi Human Rights Organization, participated in the discussion session held in Erbil on 5/7/2018 supervised by Sanad Foundation for Peace building in cooperation with Social Incury Organization.

Social Incury has presented a field study to investigate the consequences of extremism and violence practiced by ISIS in Nineveh province based on two main tracks. The first is based on understanding the perceptions of the society about the motives and factors of the growth of violent extremism, while the second depends on the views on consequences and effects of violence and extremism on children and young people.

Mr. Aso Amin, a researcher in the Social Incury Organization, explained that the study was conducted in five areas in Nineveh province, including Mosul city center, the districts of Al-Hamdaniya, Bartila, Qayara, Sinjar, Sinuni and finally Al-Baaj and Al-Hathar.

The participants included university professors, specialists, civil activists and researchers of different specializations, discussed the methodology of the study and the method of data collection.

They also discussed the causes of extremism in the areas covered by the study and the promoters of extremism and the motives and elements of extremism and levels and the extent of survival of these components.

They also discussed changes in the behaviors and personalities of society, especially students and young people before and after ISIS and impact of living and going to school under the control of ISIS or the effects of displacement on students.

The participants also studied the role of the educational sector in preventing violent extremism and helping to qualify the integration of youth into society.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants expressed their appreciation for the results of the study and the importance of developing the methodology to reflect realistic results that could be the basis for developing a comprehensive strategy to combat violent extremism and address its effects.
